Moderation

Commentix provides flexible moderation tools to help you manage user-generated content and maintain a high-quality discussion environment. Moderation is configured per site and can be adjusted at any time via the Commentix Console without requiring changes to your widget integration.

Moderation Modes

Commentix supports three moderation modes. The selected mode determines how new comments are handled at submission time.

  • Automatic
    All new comments are published immediately without review.

  • Granular
    Comments are published automatically unless they:

    • contain one or more links
    • contain blacklisted words or phrases

  • Manual
    All new comments require explicit moderator approval before becoming visible.

Notifications

Commentix can send notifications when new comments are submitted. Notification behavior is configurable and independent of the selected moderation mode.

The following options are available:

  • Send a notification on every new comment
    A notification is sent for each submitted comment, regardless of whether moderation is required.

  • Send a notification when a comment needs moderation
    Notifications are sent only when a comment requires manual review (for example, in Granular or Manual mode).

  • Disable notifications
    No notifications are sent.

Spam Prevention in the Age of AI

Automated spam detection has become increasingly unreliable as generative AI systems have advanced. Modern spam content can closely resemble legitimate human-written comments, making it difficult to reliably detect using traditional filters or heuristics.

As a result:

  • Fully automatic spam prevention is no longer sufficient for most public comment sections
  • False positives and false negatives are increasingly common
  • Human review remains the most effective way to ensure content quality

For this reason, Commentix encourages site owners to treat moderation as an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time configuration. Even when using Automatic or Granular modes, periodic manual review is strongly recommended.

Ultimately, you are responsible for the content published on your website. Commentix provides the tools to support moderation, but final control and accountability remain with the site owner.
